Churchtown was a thriving community long before Southport existed, in fact when Southport was still sand dunes. The Parish of North Meols (which includes Churchtown) traces its history back to the Domesday Book and pre conquest days.

Robert, the son of William de Coudray built Meols Hall when the area was isolated and very slow in developing. Over the years a cluster of cottages close to Meols Hall and surrounding the original Church of St. Cuthbert developed. Churchtown is now extended and surrounded by the red brick suburbs of the late 19th and early 20th century.

Fortunately, much of the village has survived and is popular with residents and visitors alike. Meols Hall is occasionally open to visitors in the summer and Botanic Gardens and Museum are open all year round. Visitors to Southport who take the short journey to Churchtown are sure to be rewarded by its charms.
